The Caterpillar Marine Business Unit announced that it will supply eight MaK 16M46 DF dual fuel engines and a complete liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply and processing system for four new cruise ships built at the Meyer Shipyard in Germany. This order further strengthens Caterpillar's leadership in the LNG marine propulsion system market.

Caterpillar is able to offer complete LNG power propulsion solutions ranging from shore filling to onboard LNG storage, from fuel tanks and automation control systems to high performance dual fuel mains, MaK 16M46 DF, and more. Ulf Hannemann, Caterpillar's manager of the cruise and passenger ship market, said, "We can provide one-stop service and a complete system for our customers. We have completed a series of dual fuel engine modifications on the merchant ship, while the new ship's double Fuel engine orders continue to grow. But we believe LNG has the greatest potential in the cruise market because clean fuels are critical to the cruise market, both at the operational and strategic levels."
Caterpillar's leading technology makes LNG more attractive as a marine fuel than ever. The Caterpillar Ship R&D team in Rostock, Germany, has demonstrated for the first time that LNG hosts can still operate efficiently with loads below 20%. At the same time, the MaK M46 DF dual-fuel engine can be started directly with LNG without having to use diesel start-up like other dual-fuel engines, thus reducing diesel emissions. Dr. Frank Starke, director of the Caterpillar Deutsche Mark plant, added, “This technology takes into account the needs of cruise operators. When the port is started or sailing, they are willing to use clean fuel instead of seeing chimneys smoky. The deck is covered with soot."
In addition, Cat marine engines have a range of innovative technologies that provide fast load response, lower fuel consumption and longer overhaul cycles. The latest generation of Cat Engine Control Units (ECUs), developed in-house, ensures that the engine is operating at optimum conditions under all conditions. Caterpillar also provides an intelligent management system that enables remote monitoring of equipment, automated data analysis, and expert diagnostics to keep equipment up and running, reducing operating costs.
Caterpillar's Hamburg-based agent Zeppelin Power Systems will be responsible for the management, supply, installation and service of the cruise project. Zeppelin CEO Volker Possoegel said, “As a Caterpillar sales and service partner for more than 60 years, we have extensive experience in powertrains. Our excellent sales and service team will provide comprehensive engineering and support services for these flagship cruises. To ensure the longest operating hours of our customers."
Europe Produced Electric Wire Rope Hoist
Eurocrane is the exclusive agent of VERLINDE,which is a Hoist leading brand from France. The EUROBLOC VT Electric Wire Rope Hoist has been created within avant-garde spirit, as it accounts for a total of 13 patents on its own.The EUROBLOC VT electric Wire Rope hoist is, as of now, the only hoisting unit with wire rope and a hook that offers, in its standard version:
1. Hook approach, [C" dimensions and the [F" approach distance of the hoist are the smallest available on the market
2. The pulley block presents only a slight lateral shift during hoisting motion (virtually vertical lifting)
3.The possibility to adjust speed while travelling. And more equipment to be discovered in the pages that follow.
