The Shanghai Municipal Labor and Social Security Bureau and the Municipal Economic Commission jointly issued the "Circular on Implementing the 2008 Summer Break in the City" on June 17. The notice made it clear that from July 7 to August 22, Shanghai will implement a summer break for industrial enterprises, with one rotation period every 7 days, and a total of seven rotations. The power load for each cycle is 400,000 kilowatts.
The notice pointed out that, in principle, all industrial enterprises in Shanghai need to participate in summer holidays. Enterprises that have to run continuously due to production process requirements and companies that produce seasonal products with market demand can take care of them during summer holidays. The enterprises that have seen a significant increase in the growth rate of their electricity consumption since the beginning of this year have first set up a holiday break. The companies that were included in 2008 with high energy consumption, high pollution, and low added value will carry out two months of electricity from July 1 to August 31.
It is learnt that companies listed in the scope of summer breaks must strictly implement the electricity break plan. In the case of extremely hot weather with black warning, the relevant provisions of the Municipal Labor and Social Security Bureau and other departments must be strictly implemented to prevent the heat and cool down, and to effectively protect the health of workers.
