2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago – March 10, 2014 (more)

This message is from Steve Redick:

Here's what happened on Monday morning in the 2900 block of Irving Park Road in Chicago. It was a large commercial building with a bowstring truss in the rear and a flat roof in the front. I arrived just as the fire broke through the roof. The conditions were tough—light rain, heavy smoke that stayed low to the ground, and a central median with lots of trees. Plus, the Snorkel and one of the tower ladders were out of service.

Two tower ladders and a Snorkel were deployed early, but there were some communication issues. There are a few photos showing a crew using a large attack line at the entrance of an alley to protect a large frame house. You can also see shots of Engine 13 with their new Crimson aerial (whether it's called an ERV or something else now). The fire lasted for several hours, and crews were on scene until around lunchtime. Here’s a selection of the photos.
