Application of Radio Frequency Identification Technology in Warehousing and Logistics

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is an advanced form of automatic identification technology and is known as one of the top ten important technical projects in the 21st century. RFID completes the automatic collection of system basic data by non-contact reading data, which becomes an effective tool for fast and accurate collection of raw data required for computer information processing. RFID is seen as a secure access technology and a viable multi-application platform that enables secure access to media served by network-based solutions. One of the basic tasks of warehousing and logistics digital construction is the collection of basic data. The truthfulness and completeness of the basic data is the key to the success of warehousing and logistics digital construction. The emergence of RFID has solved this problem in a timely manner.

A typical RFID system consists of a radio frequency tag (Tag), a reader or reader (Reader), and an application system (including connection lines). The data transmission of the RFID system is strictly in accordance with the "master-slave principle". The direction in which the command is issued is: application system → reader → electronic tag, and the direction of returning the response is reversed. Electronic data in a specific format is generally stored in electronic tags. In practical applications, the electrical label is attached to the surface of the object to be identified. The reader is also called a reading device, and can read and recognize the electronic data stored in the electronic tag without contact, and then realize management functions such as collection, processing and remote transmission of object identification information through a computer and a computer network.

Compared with the currently widely used barcodes, RFID has the following characteristics:

1. Non-directional: no need to align when reading, just use the radio to read within the scope of the reader.
2. Uniqueness: The identification code is unique and cannot be copied.
3. Richness: Electronic tags can store more data, storage capacity can reach several hundred bytes, and can be read and written repeatedly.
4. Simultaneity: You can read several to thousands of tag IDs and data at a time.
5. Ruggedness: It can work all day, not easy to be defaced or damaged.
Warehousing is an indispensable part of logistics and plays an important role in the whole logistics process. Warehousing is a buffer pool for raw materials, semi-finished products and finished products in production, which guarantees the continuous and stable production and realizes the economics of production and transportation. At the same time, warehousing can overcome the time and space differences between producers and consumers, support the company's logistics strategy, improve customer service levels, and reduce logistics costs. It can be said that without the support of the warehouse, it is impossible to have efficient and low-cost logistics services.
Most of the current warehousing logistics use barcodes as a way of intelligent storage management. Although its intelligence is much higher than before, it still requires a lot of manpower and material resources to invest in warehousing logistics. Now, if the RFID system is combined with the current bar code system, it can effectively solve the information management related to the warehouse and cargo flow, not only can increase the number of pieces of goods handled in one day, but also can view all the flow information of these goods. Combining barcodes with RFID technology is also a way for RFID to be applied at this stage. The barcode can be attached to the item, the radio frequency electronic label is attached to the tray or forklift for storing the item, the electronic label stores the information of all the items on the tray or the forklift, and the reader is placed at the entrance and exit of the warehouse. Whenever an item comes into storage, the reader automatically recognizes the item information on the electronic tag and stores the information in the management system connected to it; when the item is out of the library, the item information is automatically recognized by the reader and transmitted to the management. The system processes the information out of the system.
