Many hidden dangers in the development of the robot industry can not be ignored

Guangdong Province issued a three-year action plan for industrial restructuring and upgrading, and proposed that Guangdong’s investment in industrial technological reforms in the next three years will reach 943 billion yuan, and 1950 industrial enterprises above designated size will be replaced by “machine substitution”, but the robot industry is behind it. Many hidden dangers in development cannot be ignored. They need to be treated with caution and hold the brakes.

Recently, Guangdong Province issued a three-year action plan for industrial transformation and upgrading, and proposed that Guangdong’s investment in industrial technological upgrading will reach 943 billion yuan in the next three years, and promote the “machine-for-machine substitution” of 1950 industrial enterprises above designated size. "People" plan, focusing on industries such as automobile and motorcycle manufacturing, home appliances, hardware, electronic information, textile and clothing, civil explosives, building materials and other industries, will promote demonstration applications of industrial robots. By the end of 2017, 10 smart manufacturing bases with a large influence in the country will be initially established, and 4 smart manufacturing industry clusters with output value exceeding 10 billion yuan will be formed; 2 domestic leading robot manufacturing industry bases will be built, and robots will be manufactured. The total output value of related intelligent equipment has increased from 30 billion yuan in 2014 to more than 60 billion yuan, with an average annual increase of 26%. This is undoubtedly a good news for robot manufacturers.

As soon as the news came out, all cities in Guangdong Province were eager to share a piece of the cake. Guangzhou has proposed development goals. By 2020, it will cultivate a smart equipment industry cluster with industrial robots at the core of over 100 billion yuan; Shenzhen will rank industrial robots in the first place among the four key support projects; Dongguan industrial enterprises have begun to promote large-scale machines. The “substitution” plan; the Foshan municipal government stated that the city’s investment in robotics and automation will reach 300 billion yuan in the next five years.

However, behind the slogan, many hidden dangers in the development of the robot industry can not be ignored.

According to industry insiders, this market has become too hot under the stimulus of government policies. Last year, there were about 400 robotics companies in the country. Today, as of the first quarter of this year, the number of robotics companies has exceeded 700, and most of them are in Guangdong.

Su Chongde, a robotics expert who has had more than 40 years of experience, believes that the Chinese robot market is like catching shrimp, you are not ready, and you can't catch fish. The key to the development of robots is the application of technology and the lack of application of technology. There is no market for products.

Qu Daokui, deputy director of the National Engineering Center for Robotics, pointed out that low added value is the major risk facing the Chinese robotics industry. The robotics industry is a high-end industry with high levels of technology, talent, and capital. However, this “three-high” industry has low added value, low output, and low profit. Due to the current lack of flexibility of robots, combined with the effective mechanism for coordinating operations between robots and humans has not yet been established, many jobs face the choice of “need to use nobody, no need for robots”, resulting in the application of robots is obviously limited.

What worries the industry is that the development momentum of robots is overheated, which may lead to low-level redundant construction and repeat the mistakes of the photovoltaic industry.
