PolyOne Introduces Two Polymer Technologies

During the show, PolyOne introduced two new polymer technologies, Gravi-Tech and Therma-Tech.

Gravi-Tech high-density polymers can replace lead or traditional metals in applications that many conventional thermoplastics cannot meet; Therma-Tech thermal composites combine the thermal conductivity and cooling properties of metals with the ease of design and weight of thermoplastics. The advantages of low cost are combined to replace traditional metal parts. The two technologies can provide product designers with more choices and design freedom.

Through different metal fillers, GraviTech high-density polymers can have the appearance and feel of lead or other metals, while also giving the design flexibility and the ease of processability of thermoplastics. The advantages of these high-density polymers include: customizable densities up to 11 gm/cm3; high yield strength; thin-wall molding; compliance with US FDA standards for food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic packaging.

Thenna-Tech's thermally conductive composites combine the advantages of proprietary thermally conductive additive technology with the properties of selected engineering thermoplastic resins. Compared to conventional plastics, Thermo-Tech conductive composites can increase thermal conductivity by 50 to 100 times, and can be widely used in a range of thermally conductive product applications. Compared with traditional metal parts, the main significant advantages of Therma-Tech conductive composites include: lower coefficient of thermal expansion; lighter weight; more processing cost advantages and lower shipping costs compared to machined parts; Anti-corrosion, anti-oxidation capability; with design flexibility, more complex shapes can be designed; multi-component integration reduces assembly costs.

Gravi-Tech and Therma-Tech. It is one of the newest members in the special modified engineering plastics series that PolyOne has been launching in China since 1998. In addition, this series also includes Maxxam polyolefin modified plastics, Nymax and Bergamid polyamide (nylon) Modified plastics, Ed-getek high performance modified plastics, Bergadur modified polyester plastics, LubriOne modified lubricants, Stat-Tech antistatic and conductive modified plastics.
