Choosing a Conveyor Toaster

When it comes to purchasing a conveyor toaster, one of the most important decisions you’ll need to make is whether to go for a vertical or horizontal design. Both types utilize a conveyor belt to move bread through a cooking cavity, giving it a crispy, golden-brown finish. However, there are several factors to consider before making your choice, such as what you intend to toast, the volume and speed of production required, the available space in your kitchen, and the budget.

Deciding Between Vertical and Horizontal Toaster Models

In a vertical toaster, bread is inserted through the top and toasted on both sides after being flipped manually. In contrast, a horizontal toaster feeds the bread through the front of the appliance, allowing for a more straightforward loading process. While the shape differs between the two models, the end result in terms of toasted quality remains consistent.

If you’re working with limited counter space but still need to handle large volumes of toast, a vertical toaster might be your best option. These models are typically slim and tall, taking up minimal floor space. On the other hand, horizontal toasters often require more countertop room due to their front-loading design. However, their placement flexibility under shelves or cabinets makes them a practical alternative in certain kitchens.

Both vertical and horizontal conveyor toasters are evaluated based on their capacity to toast a specific number of slices per hour. To determine the ideal model for your needs, consider the number of customers served during peak hours and how many slices of toast each typically orders. As a general rule, you can estimate the required toasting speed by multiplying your total hourly customers by 0.5, assuming half of them order toast with their meals. This calculation will guide you toward the appropriate belt width, which impacts the number of slices that can be toasted simultaneously. High-capacity toasters generally feature wider belts, whereas lower-capacity models have narrower ones.

Picking Between Manual and Electric Conveyor Toasters

Another crucial decision is whether to opt for a manual or electric conveyor toaster. Both vertical and horizontal designs are available with either manual or electric controls. Electric controls tend to require less maintenance because they involve fewer moving parts susceptible to dirt accumulation. Meanwhile, manual controls are less prone to electrical malfunctions and repairs.

Manual controls, which remain the most popular choice, usually consist of dials or switches that adjust settings like toasting speed, power, and product type. Your preference between manual and electric controls will depend on the level of customization and precision you require in your toasting process.
