Traditional Wet Down in Buffalo Grove

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department brought a piece of classic East Coast volunteer fire company tradition to the Chicago area this morning. They held a wet-down ceremony to officially welcome their new Ferrara engine and Ferrara tower ladder to their station. The event was attended by current and former firefighters, village officials, and special guests. Chief Vavra delivered a short opening speech before the department’s newest apparatus were hosed down in a time-honored tradition. Afterward, firefighters and guests helped dry the rigs before pushing them into Station 26. Both units are expected to be fully operational within the next 18 months. The engine is set to be stationed at Station 27, while the tower ladder will take up residence at Station 26. The KME 75′ Quint currently at Station 27 will be relocated to Station 25. Buffalo Grove is replacing its 1991 E-One 75′ Hush Quint and 1989 Seagrave engine with these new units, marking an important upgrade for the department. The wet-down ceremony not only celebrated the arrival of the new equipment but also highlighted the community spirit that defines the Buffalo Grove Fire Department. Photos from the event show the excitement and pride of the firefighters as they welcomed their new tools of the trade. The new tower ladder required modifications to the station’s apparatus bay, which was raised last year to ensure a smooth fit. This update ensures that the department is well-equipped to serve the growing needs of the community.
