Commercial fire in Rolling Meadows, 4-24-19

Wednesday afternoon (April 24, 2019), firefighters from Rolling Meadows responded to 2905 W. Algonquin Road due to reports of smoke inside the building. The affected location turned out to be the Egg’lectic Café. Initially, the incident was treated as a Code 4 situation, but it escalated further into a MABAS Box Alarm when flames were spotted in the attic. Thankfully, the fire was confined to the attic area, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building. Among the first responders on the scene were Rolling Meadows' Engine 15 and Engine 16, along with their respective ambulances, Ambulances 15 and 16. Battalion 15 and the department's chiefs also arrived shortly after. From Palatine Fire Department, Engine 84, Tower 84, Squad 85, and Battalion 8 were present, along with two of their chief officers. Arlington Heights contributed Tower 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ambulance 3, and one of their chief officers. Palatine Rural Engine 36 and a chief officer were also dispatched. Schaumburg sent Engine 52 and Squad 55, while Elk Grove Township had Engine 11 on-site. Elk Grove Village brought Engine 10, and Mount Prospect sent Tower 13. Additionally, Buffalo Grove had Ambulance 25 on the scene, and Rosemont provided an ambulance. As the fire raged on, images from the scene showed firefighters working diligently to contain the blaze. One photo captured Rolling Meadows Engine 16 with its lines deployed, ready to fight the flames. Another image displayed Schaumburg firefighters covered in insulation after completing the overhaul process. Other photos highlighted the efforts of various departments as they worked together to manage the situation, including scenes of firefighters venting the commercial building’s roof to release smoke and heat. The collaborative effort among multiple departments ensured that the fire was brought under control efficiently. As the sun set, the scene transitioned from chaos to calm, with firefighters beginning to pack up their equipment and prepare to leave the site. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but the quick response and teamwork of the fire departments undoubtedly prevented more severe damage. For those interested in seeing more images from the event, a gallery has been compiled featuring several photographs taken by Larry Shapiro. These photos offer a glimpse into the intensity of the situation and the dedication of the first responders who were on the scene. As always, we extend our gratitude to all firefighters for their unwavering commitment to protecting our communities.
