MVA with entrapment in Buffalo Grove 9-30-24

This morning, emergency responders from the Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a serious car accident involving entrapment near the immediate care center at the intersection of Lake-Cook Road and Weiland Road. According to the initial report, the vehicle involved had flipped over and ended up wedged between some trees in the parking lot. When the first responding units arrived, they discovered the car lying on its side in a wooded area along the southern edge of the parking lot with the driver still inside. The firefighters immediately set to work stabilizing the vehicle to ensure it wouldn’t shift or cause any further harm to the trapped occupant. They also began assessing the condition of the driver, who was found to be conscious but clearly in distress. Working efficiently under pressure, the team managed to carefully extricate the patient by cutting away part of the vehicle's roof. Unfortunately, the original post seems to have omitted the embedded video from the scene, which would have provided additional context about the rescue operation. However, I’ve included several photos taken by Larry Shapiro that capture different stages of the incident and the efforts made by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department to safely rescue the driver. ![Larry Shapiro photo] ![Larry Shapiro photo] ![Larry Shapiro photo] ![Larry Shapiro photo] In addition to the fire department’s heroic actions, a tow truck from Hillside Towing was also present to assist in clearing the scene once the immediate danger had passed. Their specialized equipment, such as the sliding rotator and CSR65 crane, played a crucial role in safely removing the damaged vehicle without causing further complications. As you can see from the images below, the aftermath of this crash was quite severe, highlighting the importance of swift and skilled emergency response in situations like these. ![Larry Shapiro photo] ![Larry Shapiro photo] For those interested in viewing more visuals from the event, there’s a gallery available with additional thumbnails showcasing different perspectives of the rescue effort. While this incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with driving, it also showcases the professionalism and dedication of our local first responders who put themselves in harm's way every day to keep us safe. If anyone has more details about the outcome of the rescue or the condition of the driver, feel free to share in the comments section.
