Of interest … Aurora Regional Fire Museum

From recent updates on ChicagoTribune.com: Officials at the Aurora Regional Fire Museum report that despite the ongoing pandemic, there are clear signs of returning normalcy at their location at 53 N. Broadway in Aurora, which reopened in January following the state's COVID-19 mitigation strategy. Executive Director Brian Failing mentioned, "We've resumed our regular hours—Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.—and have noticed most visitors come in the afternoons. Currently, we're seeing around 30 guests per week, and we're optimistic that as warmer weather arrives with spring and summer, our visitor count will increase." The museum continues to adhere to current COVID-19 guidelines, requiring masks and maintaining social distancing. Interactive exhibits and touch-sensitive features have been temporarily removed to ensure safety. Meanwhile, efforts to enhance visitor experiences have been ongoing. Over the last couple of months, new exhibits have been installed, featuring half a dozen photographs highlighting fire department themes, along with a special exhibit borrowed from the national Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division. This display explores the evolution of emergency medical care, from ancient battlefield practices to contemporary civilian methods, and will remain on loan for several months. Looking forward, plans are underway for additional displays. A Safety in the Home exhibit is scheduled to launch this summer, while a new autumn initiative aims to commemorate two significant events. These upcoming additions reflect the museum's commitment to engaging the community while adapting to changing circumstances. As someone who recently visited, I can confirm that the atmosphere feels both safe and welcoming. The staff was friendly and eager to share stories about each exhibit. It's heartening to see how they've adapted to keep the spirit of learning alive during these challenging times.
