However, since the power plant and the user are both AC, the DC transmission must convert the AC power of the power plant into DC, and then convert the DC into AC supply users. Therefore, the converter station is the core of the DC transmission technology.


China's large-capacity and ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission technology applications began with the Gezhouba project and began to be applied on a large scale in the Three Gorges Project, but the key equipment relied on imports. The Lingbao and Genan projects are the pilot projects for DC localization.


It is reported that the Lingbao converter station project is based entirely on domestic construction, and the main equipment is 100% domestically produced. The successful construction of the project marks that China's DC localization has reached a new stage, and it has exemplary and guiding significance for China's independent and independent construction of large-scale DC transmission projects in the future. The Gezhouba-South Bridge 500 kV DC transmission project (referred to as Genan DC Project) is the first trans-regional and ultra-high voltage DC transmission project in China. The renovation project of Genan DC Control and Protection System is the first comprehensive transformation of the control and protection system for large-capacity and ultra-high-voltage DC transmission projects in China. The project uses domestically produced equipment.


At present, the total length of large-capacity and ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission lines that have been built and operated by State Grid Corporation has reached 3826.6 kilometers, and the transmission capacity has reached 6.56 million kilowatts. The total length and transmission capacity of the line are among the highest in the world.
