The 7-cylinder 58-type marine diesel engine, manufactured by Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory, has successfully completed all required testing and has been delivered to its client. This low-speed engine is equipped with an electronically controlled common rail fuel system, capable of delivering a maximum output of 15,260 kW. It will be installed on an 110,000-ton oil tanker being constructed by Dalian New Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for Denmark's TORM Shipping Company. This marks the world’s first electronically controlled common rail marine diesel engine, setting a new benchmark in marine propulsion technology.
The successful development of this engine places Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory on par with leading manufacturers in Japan and South Korea, highlighting the growing strength of China’s shipbuilding industry. It also serves as a significant milestone in enhancing the supporting capabilities of Dalian’s shipbuilding sector, reinforcing its position in the global market.
As the main engine of a vessel, the diesel engine is often referred to as the "heart" of the ship. The electronically controlled common rail system represents a powerful integration of modern electronic technology with traditional mechanical engineering, reflecting the future direction of marine propulsion systems. In recent years, the global shipping industry has shown a clear trend toward adopting such advanced technologies, gradually replacing conventional mechanical engines. This shift paves the way for the full intelligentization of ship engines, improving efficiency, reducing emissions, and enhancing overall performance. With this breakthrough, Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory is well-positioned to lead in the next era of maritime innovation.
