During the "10th Five-Year Plan" period, Fujian Province made remarkable progress in science and technology. A total of 112 projects from Fujian were included in the national Torch Program, marking a significant step forward in technological innovation. The province achieved numerous scientific and technological breakthroughs with independent intellectual property rights, especially in fields such as chemical engineering, new materials, biotechnology, and environmental protection.
One notable achievement was the development of a chromium-free high-variation fertilizer catalyst, which successfully addressed a long-standing global issue of chromium pollution in high-variation catalysts over the past century. Additionally, the "B121 type chromium-free carbon monoxide high-humidity shift catalyst" and the "development of solid superacid photocatalysts and their industrial application" jointly won the first prize in the National Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
The research on catalytic distillation of methyl acetate reached international advanced levels and was successfully commercialized. Meanwhile, the "engineerable preparation technology of high-performance silicon carbide fiber" broke through key technical barriers, entering the pilot stage and expected to overcome the technological blockade imposed by developed countries.
In the field of inorganic nonlinear optical crystal materials, Fujian's research remains at the forefront globally. Innovations in optically functional nano-ceramics, nano-optical glass ceramics, and nano-molecular devices, along with research on carbon-50 capture, have placed the province at the international frontier. The research on the synthesis, structure, and properties of new inorganic polymer materials earned the second prize in the National Natural Science Award.
Fujian also built a strong foundation in bioethanol production, hydrogen production, biodiesel development, industrialization, and biocatalytic synthesis. By the end of 2005, the province had identified 811 high-tech enterprises and 64 national key high-tech companies under the Torch Plan, playing a vital role in the growth of high-tech industries and the overall economic development of the region.
