The 7-cylinder 58-type marine diesel engine, manufactured by the Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory, has successfully passed all required tests and has been delivered. This low-speed engine is equipped with an electronically controlled common rail fuel system, capable of delivering a maximum power output of 15,260 kW. It will be installed on an 110,000-ton oil tanker being built by Dalian New Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for Denmark’s TORM company. This marks the world's first electronically controlled common rail marine diesel engine, representing a major breakthrough in China's shipbuilding industry.
The successful development of this engine places the Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Factory on par with leading Japanese and South Korean manufacturers, signaling a significant leap in technological capability. This achievement also highlights the growing strength of Dalian’s shipbuilding support industry, which plays a crucial role in the global maritime sector.
As the main engine of a ship, the diesel engine is often referred to as the "heart" of the vessel. The electronically controlled common rail system combines cutting-edge electronic technology with traditional mechanical power systems, setting a new standard for modern marine propulsion. In recent years, the global shipping industry has increasingly shifted toward such advanced technologies, gradually replacing older mechanical models. This transition paves the way for fully intelligent ship engines, enhancing efficiency, reliability, and environmental performance. The introduction of this engine not only demonstrates China’s growing technical prowess but also positions it as a key player in the future of smart and sustainable shipping.
