Mitsubishi new car is expected to settle in Beiqi next year?

Beijing Jeep's Outlander has unveiled three new models following changes in its relationship with Mitsubishi, raising questions about how Beijing Jeep, the joint venture between BAIC and Chrysler, will maintain its partnership with Mitsubishi. During the recent "First City of the World" Outlander event, the brand introduced three new versions—elegant, sporty, and luxurious—each tailored to different consumer preferences. A senior executive from Beijing Jeep confirmed that the collaboration with Mitsubishi remains strong despite any shifts in the broader relationship between DaimlerChrysler and Mitsubishi. Both parties are planning to deepen their cooperation, including the potential introduction of new Mitsubishi models in 2025. Outlander, positioned as a full-time all-around sedan, combines the strengths of off-road capability with comfort and style. Industry analysts believe it represents a new direction in automotive development, signaling a shift beyond traditional car segments like sedans, MPVs, and SUVs. Since its launch in January, Outlander has quickly become a key model for Beijing Jeep, rivaling the long-standing JEEP series. In the first eight months of this year, over 12,000 units were sold, helping Beijing Jeep surpass Changan Ford in the domestic SUV market. The launch of the three new models is expected to further expand Outlander’s product lineup and reinforce its position within Beijing Jeep. Beyond SUVs, the company is also exploring the passenger car market. Earlier this year, DaimlerChrysler approved a joint venture with BAIC to produce Mercedes-Benz E-series and C-series cars, as well as medium and heavy trucks in China. The plant is scheduled to start production in 2005, with an annual output of 25,000 vehicles. The new Outlander models are priced between ¥172,800 and ¥219,800, higher than the previous classic version. They feature a 2.4-liter, 16-valve multi-point ECI-MULTI engine from Mitsubishi, along with added comforts such as sunroofs and leather seats. Beijing Jeep’s marketing manager, Tao Zhihui, emphasized that the company has focused on product segmentation to better meet Chinese consumer tastes, offering diverse configurations and price points without compromising core performance. The "Deluxe Edition" combines elements of both the elegant and sporty versions, featuring top-tier equipment, spacious interiors, and advanced technology like the IN-VECS-II transmission and ABS+EBD system. Analysts see this as a sign that the automotive industry is moving toward a more mature and rational path. Meanwhile, DaimlerChrysler recently reduced its stake in Mitsubishi from 37% to 25%, while selling its 10.5% stake in Hyundai for $900 million, nearly doubling its investment. Despite these moves, the company remains focused on expanding its presence in China. Mitsubishi executives also made a notable appearance at the event, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening ties with Beijing Jeep. According to Beijing Jeep, the partnership with Mitsubishi continues to deepen, and the company sees value in working with multiple partners to achieve broader strategic goals.
