A semi-truck caught fire on southbound Route 41, just north of Deerpath Road near the hospital entrance. The Lake Forest Fire Department was quickly dispatched to the scene. The driver managed to detach the trailer, which was carrying a load of cheese. As the units responded, dispatchers reported that the rear brakes were on fire. Battalion 42 arrived first and found the trailer fully involved in flames.
Route 41 was closed down, and traffic was being rerouted onto Gage Lane. Firefighters faced challenges in establishing a water supply, so Engine 422 laid a supply line from the hospital to the scene. Ernie’s Wrecker Service was called in to tow the burning trailer away. Due to the extremely cold temperatures, IDOT was requested to make a few passes with salt to prevent icy conditions.
The following companies responded to the incident: Squad 421, Engine 422, Ambulance 421, Utility 421, and Battalion 42 from Lake Forest. Additional help came from Lake Bluff Engine 4519 and Knollwood Engine 44. Thanks to all the responders for their quick action and coordination during this challenging situation.
