Mitsubishi Heavy Industries completed UE low speed diesel engine testing machine

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has announced that it has completed the construction of a full range of low-speed, two-stroke marine diesel engines at its Kobe shipyard and machinery plant in Japan.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries said the new test machine will be used to test engine technology for strict environmental protection treaties, including testing of the recently announced UEC-LSGi dual-fuel LNG/HFO low-speed marine diesel technology.

The 4-cylinder tester has a bore diameter of 600mm. It is based on the Mitsubishi UEC60LSE-Eco design, with a 2400mm stroke and an output power of 9970kW and 105rpm. It is mainly used to test the NOx reduction methods of the IMO Tier III standard, such as exhaust gas circulation. According to Mitsubishi, the company has already tested SCR technology and achieved 80% Tier III NOx reduction targets.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries also added that the testing machine will also test valuable energy saving technologies. Mitsubishi is pursuing the “Project MEET” (Mitsubishi Marine Energy and Environmental Technology Solutions System), which involves a variety of waste heat recovery methods and organic Rankine cycle technology.

Corresponding to the testing machine, Mitsubishi also established training equipment to provide maintenance training for customers.
