China's first self-righting high-speed rescue boat, developed by Harbin Institute of Technology, has successfully completed its test in Shenzhen. This innovative vessel, named SD (Hailong) 928J, is a remarkable breakthrough in maritime safety technology. It can return to an upright position in under two seconds after capsizing in rough seas—significantly faster than the typical six seconds required for similar boats internationally.
The SD 928J was developed over nearly two years through a collaboration between the Transportation Department of Dalian Maritime University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Shenzhen Haisby Boat Technology Development Co., Ltd. The boat is designed to automatically recover from a full 360-degree flip, ensuring rapid response during emergencies. During testing, it successfully met all design specifications, proving its reliability in extreme conditions.
Built using advanced composite materials and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, the 9-meter-long rescue boat is fully enclosed, making it ideal for harsh weather environments. It can carry up to 16 people or a 5-ton load and is engineered to withstand winds of up to level 10. Even if all compartments are damaged, the hull remains unsinkable, offering maximum safety for crew and passengers.
To ensure the well-being of rescuers, the boat includes special features such as safety seats that help preserve their energy during operations. This new development marks a major step forward in maritime rescue capabilities, combining speed, durability, and human-centric design to enhance emergency response efficiency.
