Multi-State Action BYD New Energy Vehicle Accelerates "To Sea"

Although new energy technologies are still at the exploratory stage in China, BYD has found a greater space for development overseas through the “going out” strategy.

In the past two years, BYD has been hit by sales and profit declines in China, but its new energy concept has been favored overseas. Recently, Chairman Wang Chuanfu has carried out a series of international deployments: from building overseas plants to setting up overseas joint ventures; from building taxi fleets to selling energy storage systems, BYD's technology and new energy products seem to have wall-flowering walls The trend of foreign incense.

California built electric vehicle bus factory

More than a decade ago, when BYD was still just a company that made a living from a mobile phone battery, it had already sold cell phone batteries to the United States. As one of the most mature and potential markets for global new energy vehicles, the importance of the United States to BYD is self-evident. Brewing for a long time, BYD finally shot again.

Recently, BYD senior vice president Li Ke revealed in an interview with the media that BYD will establish a new energy electric vehicle bus factory in California this year. This will be the first electric vehicle bus factory that BYD invested and built overseas.

In an interview with the media, Li Ke disclosed that the factory's specific address will be released in the first quarter of 2013, and the factory will be ready for production after it is completed. From the point of view of factory output, the output in 2014 is expected to be 50 to 100, and it will be expected to exceed 500 in 2015.

While BYD is actively expanding its market in the United States, the United States has also reported encouraging news that the US will have 1 million electric vehicles in 2015. This data shows that the United States will have a prosperous and rigid demand for similar new energy electric vehicle products, including BYD electric buses, in the coming years. Li Ke once said to the media that in the traditional car field, the United States can be described as a master, BYD has almost no chance of winning, but in the field of new energy vehicles, BYD is the leader. In the eyes of Li Ke, BYD has such a “dominance” position in New Energy – as far as electric buses are concerned, BYD has no competitors in the next three to five years – because BYD is the only one in the world. A company that combines battery manufacturing and automotive manufacturing. Li Ke said that it is the first leading international technology to enter the US electric vehicle market, and BYD holds the core technology related to electric vehicles that the United States does not even have. In order to better capture the US market, BYD currently employs many US experts and local sales teams.

European joint venture established

On December 11th, BYD and Bulmineral, a Bulgarian company in Bulgaria, formally signed a contract. The two sides announced that they will establish a 50:50 electric vehicle joint venture.

The joint venture company named Auto Group Motors is not only the first electric vehicle joint venture established by BYD in overseas, but also the first electric bus joint venture in Europe.

According to the agreement, both parties will produce pure electric bus K9 in Breznik, Bulgaria. This means that BYD electric vehicles will formally enter the Bulgarian market and will radiate to other European countries, which will help BYD to expand overseas markets, especially the European market.

He Yipeng, general manager of BYD Auto Export Trading Division, said: “This is a very important step for BYD. We hope that the establishment of the joint venture will bring BYD's green dream to Bulgaria and take root in the future and spread throughout Europe.”

Bulgarian officials also welcome this cooperation. Mr. Valentin Bojuov, Deputy Minister of Transport of Bulgaria stated that in the future, it will fully support BYD and Bulmineral’s joint venture project.

Since the first public tender for electric buses in Europe was awarded in Friesland, the Netherlands, in June 2012, BYD has now signed orders for electric buses in the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, the United States, Canada, Uruguay and other countries, and its electric buses are already Spain, Belgium, Hungary, Colombia, Chile, and Peru successfully conducted trial operations.

BYD's pure electric buses are gaining popularity overseas, thanks to its own high-security iron batteries. This type of battery has a long cruising range and can travel 250 kilometers on a single charge, which can meet the mileage requirements of most city operations. In addition, pure electric buses can not only effectively reduce CO2 emissions and reduce noise, but also significantly reduce the operating costs of bus operators compared to traditional diesel buses.

South American Taxi Team

In order to better expand overseas markets, BYD adopts a “combination of car and car rental” dual-combination model—not only setting up a joint venture company, selling new energy electric buses, but also doing “car rental” business.

BYD, which already has experience in the operation of new energy vehicles in China, has been extending the car rental business to overseas markets to reinforce its industry leadership position in the field of new energy vehicles.

On December 12, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu announced that BYD formally established the first pure electric taxi team in South America.

BYD's attack on the Bogotá market in South America will run a taxi team together with its local partner, Praco Didacol Public Transport. The latter is a 95-year old public transport service company.

The model of this pure electric taxi team is BYD's e6 electric model. Previously, BYD e6, with its long cruising range and stable performance, has become the exclusive supplier of a green public transport pilot project in Bogotá city. This project is a key transportation project in Bogotá City and is led by the Bogotá City Mayor’s Office. Municipal Communications Bureau, Environmental Protection Agency and other departments established.

The BYD e6 pure electric taxi team has now passed the approval of the Colombian Ministry of Transport and plans to operate on the road in the first quarter of 2013.

Switzerland sells energy storage systems

In addition to selling cars and renting cars, BYD has also become a seller of energy storage systems. Recently, the 50KW/60KWH energy storage system products jointly developed by BYD and partner Ampard Co., Ltd. have successfully arrived in Switzerland and have been successfully connected to the grid.

The product was purchased by Swiss Power Company and is mainly used for peak regulation to protect the grid of the service area. Currently, BYD has completed the installation of more than 100 megawatts of energy storage power stations all over the world. It includes Chevron’s largest CERTS-based ESS project in the United States. This time, Switzerland introduced energy storage systems and applied it to power grid regulation. This will greatly accelerate the promotion and use of new energy in the Swiss market.

Lu Jun, head of BYD's energy storage business, said: "BYD has always been committed to the green energy industry, relying on battery core technology, whether it is technology or product quality are in the forefront of the world, the company has already put into use the total area of over 29,000 square meters of electrical cabinets final assembly The production plant is used for the production and testing of DESS, inverters, inverters, and electric vehicle charging cabinets. It uses R&D strength and investment to demonstrate the company's long-term strategy and industry leadership in actively expanding the new energy industry.”

In addition, BYD will extend its tentacles into Germany and conduct agency IT business through its subsidiary BYD Microelectronics. On December 18th, BYD Microelectronics and Rutronik, the top German electronic components distributor, formally signed a global strategic cooperation agreement, and announced that it was BYD Microelectronics' first global agent responsible for the global distribution of BYD Microelectronics products.

Rutronik CEO Tomas Rudel said: "We are very pleased to establish a strategic partnership with BYD Microelectronics to sell BYD products around the world." And Chen Gang, general manager of BYD Microelectronics, said that Rutronik has extensive customer resources and a wealth of Sales channels, and the existing product lines of the two companies can achieve a very good complement.
