On October 8th, China First Heavy Machinery Group Co., Ltd. officially took on the manufacturing of an ethylene oxide reactor for Dalian New Group. A signing ceremony was held at the Golden Pebble Beach International Conference Center to mark the agreement. This marks a historic milestone as it is the first domestically produced ethylene oxide reactor in China, breaking the long-standing dominance of foreign manufacturers. The achievement holds significant implications for enhancing China's heavy machinery manufacturing capabilities and strengthening its global competitiveness in the industrial sector.
The reactor, which weighs a total of 500 tons, incorporates patented technology from American SD Company. However, the entire design and manufacturing process were carried out independently by Chinese engineers and manufacturers. Currently, the project has entered the design phase, with an expected delivery scheduled for October next year.
China currently faces an annual shortfall of 3 million tons of ethylene oxide. As a critical piece of equipment in the production of ethylene oxide, which is essential for the petrochemical industry, reactors have been largely imported for years. Although China has an annual production capacity of 1.3 million tons of ethylene oxide, all the reactors used are still imported, highlighting the importance of this new domestic development.
This breakthrough not only addresses a key technological gap but also represents a major step forward in China’s efforts to achieve self-reliance in advanced industrial equipment. It is expected to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers and open new opportunities for domestic manufacturers in the global market.
