In the dark brown high-concentration organic waste liquid, a remarkable transformation is taking place—turning it into valuable organic compound fertilizer with strong market demand. This impressive process is made possible by the spray granulation dryer developed by Shandong Xuyang Machinery Group. The scene was witnessed by a reporter on March 14 at Deju Chemical Co., Ltd. in Jining City, Shandong Province.
What makes this device stand out is its ability to convert stubborn, high-concentration waste liquids rich in nitrogen and organic matter—commonly discharged by companies in the MSG, papermaking, and pharmaceutical industries—into useful organic fertilizers. By incorporating specific auxiliary materials according to proprietary formulas and using an advanced spray granulation drying process, these waste liquids are effectively transformed into high-quality compound fertilizers.
"The construction of this 40,000-ton-per-year plant for converting high-concentration organic waste water into compound fertilizer cost a total of 6 million yuan. The production cost is under 700 yuan per ton, while the current selling price of the fertilizer has reached 1,400 yuan. Based on this, the payback period for the investment is less than one year. Now that we have completed the environmental evaluation for the other two sets of equipment, we plan to build two more production lines soon," said the company representative to the reporter.
According to Chairman Xu Fangchun of Xuyang Group, the company has already produced nearly 400 spray granulation dryers with independent intellectual property rights for over 50 domestic enterprises. The technology for producing compound fertilizers from waste liquids using this equipment has been widely adopted in the domestic MSG industry. Building on this success, the group has continued to refine the technology, focusing particularly on wastewater from the paper and pharmaceutical sectors.
In 2007, the improved organic high-concentration waste liquid compound fertilizer technology was successfully applied at two companies within Shandong Quanlin Group and Hebei Shijiazhuang Pharmaceutical Group. Looking ahead, the company aims to promote this process in the paper industry and bio-pharmaceutical companies that use starch as a raw material, offering a practical solution for wastewater treatment in highly polluting industries and enabling large-scale industrial application.
According to reports, during the papermaking process using plant fibers, approximately 60% of the raw materials—including lignin, pentosans, and other chemicals along with water—form what is known as black liquor. Researchers from Xuyang Group discovered that waste from paper, MSG, and some pharmaceutical companies contains significant amounts of lignin, hemicellulose, xylose, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—substances highly valuable in the fertilizer industry. Through scientific formulation and specialized equipment, these can be converted into organic compound fertilizers.
To further advance this innovation, Xuyang Group collaborated with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to develop a technology for producing compound fertilizers from waste liquids generated by the MSG, paper, and pharmaceutical industries. At the heart of this system is the spray granulation dryer produced by Asahi Group.
