In the dark brown high-concentration organic waste liquid, a remarkable transformation is taking place—turning it into valuable organic compound fertilizer with strong market demand. This impressive process is carried out by the spray granulation dryer developed by Shandong Xuyang Machinery Group. The reporter witnessed this transformation on March 14 at Deju Chemical Co., Ltd. in Jining City, Shandong Province.
The standout feature of this device is its ability to convert stubborn, high-concentration waste liquids rich in nitrogen and organic matter—such as those from MSG, papermaking, and pharmaceutical companies—into organic compound fertilizer. By using proprietary formulas and adding appropriate auxiliary materials, the improved spray granulation dryer effectively transforms these waste streams into a useful agricultural product.
"The construction of this 40,000-ton-per-year plant that turns high-concentration organic wastewater into compound fertilizer cost a total of 6 million yuan. The production cost per ton is less than 700 yuan, while the current market price for the fertilizer has reached 1,400 yuan. Based on this, the return on investment can be achieved in under one year. Now that we have completed the environmental evaluation for the other two sets of equipment, we are preparing to set up two more production lines soon," said the company representative.
According to Chairman Xu Fangchun of Xuyang Group, they have already produced nearly 400 spray granulation dryers with independent intellectual property rights for over 50 domestic enterprises. The technology of producing compound fertilizer from waste liquids using this equipment has been widely adopted in the domestic MSG industry. Building on this success, the group has continued to refine the technology, focusing on wastewater from the paper and pharmaceutical sectors.
In 2007, the improved organic high-concentration waste liquid compound fertilizer technology was successfully applied at two companies under Shandong Quanlin Group and Hebei Shijiazhuang Pharmaceutical Group.
Xu Fangchun added that their next goal is to promote this process within the paper industry and bio-pharmaceutical companies that use starch as a raw material. This will provide a practical solution for treating highly polluting industrial wastewater, helping these industries achieve large-scale industrialization.
According to reports, during the papermaking process using plant fibers, approximately 60% of the raw materials—including lignin, pentosans, and other chemicals—combine with water to form black liquor. Researchers from Xuyang Group discovered that waste from paper, MSG, and some pharmaceutical companies contains high levels of lignin, hemicellulose, xylose, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—substances that are highly valuable in the fertilizer industry. Through scientific formulation and specialized equipment, these substances can be converted into organic compound fertilizer.
To this end, Xuyang Group collaborated with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to develop a technology for producing compound fertilizers from waste liquids generated in the monosodium glutamate, paper, and pharmaceutical industries. The core equipment used in this process is the spray granulation dryer manufactured by Asahi Group.
