At present, it seems that due to the sharp reduction in the price of the chip, the cost of the light source that originally occupied the cost of the lamp is only 10 to 30 of the total cost, while the other parts such as the power supply and the heat dissipation account for 35 to 45. As a lighting product, the light source occupies such a low cost structure is clearly worthy of our vigilance.

The fundamental reason is that because the price of the chip is too high, the high-power chip is as high as a few dollars. If working at a lower current density, the lamp can use a low-voltage power supply with high voltage and low current. The AC/DC conversion efficiency is high, and the chip luminous efficiency is also high. At the same time, the working voltage of the chip becomes smaller, the temperature becomes lower, and the efficiency becomes higher. The reliability is improved, and the luminous efficiency of the phosphor is high. Therefore, with such a scheme for manufacturing an LED lamp, the power supply cost becomes low, and the cost of the heat radiating member also becomes low.

Of course, the current density becomes lower, and to achieve the same light effect, it is necessary to use a chip. However, as the operating current density decreases, the number of quantum wells in the chip light-emitting layer is also reduced, and the manufacturing cost of the chip is also reduced, which is also a benign cycle. Therefore, this requires the coordinated development of all links in the entire LED lighting industry chain. More efforts are needed around the technical path of smaller current density, and appropriate use of chips to reduce the stringent requirements of the lamps for power supply and heat dissipation. In this way, the luminous efficiency and reliability of the LED luminaire will be further improved while keeping the total manufacturing cost of the luminaire little changed.
