The groundbreaking ceremony for the new base of Shaanxi Hande Axle Co., Ltd. recently took place in the National Hi-Tech Development Zone in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. As the first foundation pile was driven into the ground, it marked the official start of construction for a new facility located in the northern suburbs of Hande. This development is part of the company's strategic move to meet growing market demands and support its long-term growth. The new base is part of the technological transformation and expansion of the Shaanxi Heavy Truck Industrial Park in the Jiaohe Development Zone, making it the largest heavy axle production base in China.
Currently, Hande has an annual production capacity of 100,000 axle units. By the end of the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan," the company expects to reach an output of over 220,000 units, with a target of establishing a large-scale modern axle production base capable of producing 240,000 bridge assemblies annually.
Since 2006, Shaanxi Hande Axle Co., Ltd. has maintained strong momentum in both production and sales. From January to June, the company broke several monthly records for bridge production and sales, achieving a record high in the first half of the year. During this period, the production of various types of bridge assemblies increased by 103.79% year-on-year, while sales rose by 99.5%. Revenue reached 600 million yuan, up 84.9% from the previous year, and profits and taxes surged by 198.23%.
In 2006, the company was ranked 367th among China’s Top 500 Machinery Enterprises, highlighting its strong performance and competitive edge.
Through continuous technological upgrades, Hande introduced German MAN bridge technology and became a well-known name in the heavy axle industry. It is the only designated manufacturer of Steyr axles imported into the country and supplies critical components for military off-road vehicles. After acquiring Steyr technology, the company developed a range of specialized products, including quenched, enhanced quenched, and widened wheel types, tailored to meet domestic needs.
Hande has consistently maintained an average growth rate of over 40% for six consecutive years. The company has successfully developed various axle models, including bearing shafts, Steyr front axles, Mann front axles, single-stage bridges, and military vehicle axles. These efforts have solidified its position as a key player in China’s heavy axle manufacturing sector.
The axle assemblies produced by Shaanxi Hande Axle Co., Ltd. were tested by the National Automobile Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Xiangfan), where the fatigue life of the Steyr mid-bridge gear exceeded 400,000 cycles, and the rear axle gear reached over 500,000 cycles. These results surpassed national standards and set new benchmarks in the industry.
Domestically, the fatigue life of Steyr Zhongqiao gears rarely exceeds 150,000 cycles. However, Hande achieved a remarkable 539,000 undamaged cycles for its rear axle gears, and its axle housing endured 1.318 million cycles without damage—far exceeding the national standard of 518,000 cycles. This level of quality has earned praise from industry experts and enabled Hande to export its products to Europe.
Hande’s Steyr twin drive axle, rear drive axle, and driven front axle are used in heavy commercial vehicles with total masses of more than 32 tons, as well as 7-ton 6×6 and 5-ton 4×4 military off-road vehicles. These products hold over 95% market share in the domestic market and more than 30% in the heavy commercial vehicle segment under 19 tons.
The company operates state-of-the-art processing lines for heavy-duty axles and axle housings, bridge assembly, and MAN series bridge production. With a focus on independent innovation and lean manufacturing, Hande continues to enhance product quality and maintain a competitive edge in the market.
Hande is accelerating the trial production of new products and has established a comprehensive product lineup. The successful launch of MAN single-stage drive axles has completed the company’s product layout, covering a full range of heavy-duty axles from single-stage to double-stage deceleration, suitable for road transport, construction vehicles, and all types of axles—front, middle, and rear.
Currently, Hande has built strong partnerships with nearly 20 major manufacturers of heavy-duty vehicles in China.
