New opportunities for the development of electric vehicles will form a new ecological lithium industry

The second "Lithium Industry-New Ecology" international summit forum co-organized by the People's Government of Qinghai Province, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the China Electric Vehicles Centennial Association kicked off on June 20th. The demand for lithium resources is huge “The development of fuel vehicles is unsustainable and must be changed.” Wang Chuanfu, chairman and president of the Board of Directors of BYD Co., Ltd., clearly stated that he is very optimistic about the future development of electric vehicles. He believes that electric vehicles have ushered in a rare opportunity for development.

According to Wang Chuanfu, the current mainstream technology of electric vehicles is still driven by lithium batteries. Even a fuel cell requires a lithium battery. "This way, we count the number of lithium batteries and lithium resources needed."

The data shared by Zhang Yongwei, deputy director of the Development Research Center of the State Council and a researcher and the chief expert of the China Electric Vehicles Centennial Association, showed that electric cars including pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles were sold by major automobile manufacturers last year. It has exceeded 300,000 vehicles. "There is also a low-speed electric vehicle that does not have a legal status as a motorized vehicle, and it may have more than 1 million."

From this point of view, the development of electric vehicles will increasingly increase the demand for lithium resources, which also puts new demands on the development of lithium resources industry. It is understood that Qinghai has listed the lithium resources industry as one of the five emerging industries and proposed the “100 billion plan” for the lithium industry. The goal is to form lithium collection resource development, lithium battery material production and lithium battery assembly and manufacturing in 2020. The "100 billion yuan" scale integrated lithium industrial chain has boosted the development of China's electric vehicle industry.

“Qinghai’s abundant resources make Qinghai very confident in achieving the goals of 2025,” said Thorsten Lahrs, Vice President of Peking University’s Advance Science and Technology Industry Co., Ltd. “Qinghai is also very ambitious for future development. I hope to realize energy storage by 2025. The battery output reached 14,000 MWh."

According to him, at present, 18% of the world's solar energy storage batteries are produced by Qinghai, and Peking University first hopes to realize an investment of 100 billion RMB to promote its sales and increase sales to 180 billion yuan.

The challenge can not be ignored <br> <br> electric vehicles and energy storage needs of the market, the formation of a new market space for the lithium-ion battery. At the same time, there are several latitudes in the design of the power battery (parameters, pictures, and inquiry) that cannot be ignored.

“The reliability of the power battery is particularly important, and we should consider how to increase the specific energy of the battery and increase the mileage of the battery (assembling, pictures, inquiry) under the premise of ensuring the safety and high reliability of the electric vehicle.” Gao Junkui, vice president of God Battery Co., Ltd. said so.

Huang Shilin, president of Ningde Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., believes that the power battery pursues five aspects of performance, safety, energy density, power density, service life, and cost. "The development that needs to be balanced in the five areas requires a larger system to ensure a balanced development of these five aspects."

Chen Qingtai, chairman of the China Electric Vehicles Centennial Association, pointed out that the core of the cutting-edge competition in the power battery industry is technology competition. “We must be willing to invest in research and development. Once we achieve a breakthrough, we will be able to grasp the initiative of competition and obtain substantial benefits.”

At the same time, he emphasized that in the medium and long term, the primary factor that determines the development of China's electric vehicles is not the rapid expansion of production capacity, but the continuous accumulation of technological breakthroughs, and increasingly strong product competitiveness. "The battery is a new industry and a sunrise industry. In the coming period, the battery level will continue to increase, and new breakthroughs are expected."
